Jovan Tan – Finance Graduate
Tell me about yourself and your role within the finance team at Vertech Group.
I graduated from Curtin University mid-2017 and joined Vertech Group as a Finance Graduate in November 2019. My primary role is to support the Finance Manager and team with month-end processing and assist with reconciliation, AP/AR duties, and other ad hoc tasks.
What is the most interesting or satisfying thing you have worked on at Vertech?
Being able to work on various tenders with senior management. As a graduate, being involved in projects involving people from across the business and being exposed to different professions and stories is a really rewarding experience. No two days are the same!
You went to Curtin University. What is one skill you learned during your studies that has been vital as a young professional?
To be able to take constructive criticism and build upon mistakes. As a student, receiving rejection or criticism for your work or input is not uncommon. Rejected proposals and criticism can be difficult to stomach, especially when you’ve dedicated much time and effort to your work. However, I always approach these situations with an understanding and open mind because it’s important to remember that everyone is working towards the same goal. Most criticism from a peer or teacher can help you discover a more effective approach to a problem.
In a world where Vertech Group never existed, what is your dream company/organisation for which to work?
A company that works with the servant leadership philosophy and people-first perspective is similar to Vertech.

Liam Rajanayagam – Project Costing Officer
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do at Vertech Group
I’m 22 years old and graduated from Curtin University in 2019. I like to play footy in my spare time and generally keep fit in the offseason. My role at Vertech Group is as a Project Costings Officer. This involves invoicing and keeping Vertech’s finances up for various projects.
Is there one project you have worked on that you are particularly proud of?
The most interesting thing I have worked on is that we had to streamline our invoicing process with a major client; building that from scratch with others in finance was a good learning experience. It was good to understand better the industry and how clients prefer their finances to be presented.
In a world where Vertech Group never existed, what is your dream company/organisation for which to work?
I’m not 100% sure about a company, but maybe working for a sporting organisation in some role would be fun.
Your tipping name is Best Coast. Are you tipping the West Coast Eagles to be the 2020 AFL premier?
Yes 100%. West Coast Eagles all the way.
What television show are you binge-watching right now?
Last Chance U – Netflix
What would your autobiography be called?
“The Youngest in the Office” ~ an autobiography by Liam Raja.
