Nikki Coleman (Vertech Group) and Jayden Harp (Geo Oceans) at Energy Club WA’s 2021 Next Generation Student Expo Day.
Vertech Group enjoyed attending Energy Club WA’s 2021 Next Generation Student Expo Day this past Friday. The event’s purpose was to showcase potential pathways into the industry for Year 10 students, as well as how specialist equipment and technologies are utilised within the field to complete tasks and assist with projects.
Overall, 300 students attended the event at the ECU Joondalup campus, where our team, supported by Geo Oceans, delivered a very interesting activity on Marine Surveying. The activity entailed watching footage of a cuttlefish school captured by a Geo Oceans Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV).
The task is to count the cuttlefish within the ROV footage and then use the findings to complete a set of survey questions. The purpose here is for the students to estimate the population density of the cuttlefish within an area based on the information available to them.
Through Vertech Group’s demonstration, the students could see our technologies’ wide variety and true capabilities within the field. Furthermore, they received a brief taste of what enjoyment our industry has to offer.
